On Sunday, 5 October 2025, students from Wulong Tai Chi Kung Fu proudly demonstrated their skills at the 23rd WTQA Festival, held at Carwatha College, Noble Park North. The Festival, hosted by Wushu Tai Chi & Qigong Australia Inc. (WTQA), brought together martial arts schools and enthusiasts from across the country to celebrate the rich traditions of Chinese martial arts.
Under the guidance of Professor Lily Sun, Wulong students delivered two outstanding performances:
Taichi Barehand 42 (Competition Form)
Performed by our Advanced Tai Chi students, this internationally recognised routine was developed by the Chinese Sports Committee in the 1980s. It combined movements from the Yang, Chen, Wu, and Sun styles into a single, elegant form. The Taichi Barehand 42 Form is known for its balance, fluidity, and technical precision, and our students performed it with grace and discipline.
Wushu Dao (Broadsword) Routine
Our Wushu students showcased the dynamic Dao (Broadsword) Elementary Routine. The Dao, a curved single-edged blade, is one of the most iconic weapons in Chinese martial arts. The performance featured powerful and expressive movements—hacking, slashing, blocking, and circling—that demonstrated strength, coordination, and spirit.
Mass Ba Duan Jin Qigong Practice
In addition to the scheduled performances, Wulong Instructor Noriko Tanaka graciously led the mass Ba Duan Jin Qigong practice, inviting all participants and guests to join in. This inclusive and energising session was a highlight of the day, bringing together the entire festival community in a shared moment of mindfulness and movement.
The Wulong team was honoured to be part of such a vibrant and inspiring event. We extend our heartfelt thanks to WTQA for organising this celebration of traditional Chinese martial arts and to everyone who came to support our students.
A special shout out to Melbourne University Wushu Kung Fu, also coached by Professor Lily, who put on an amazing wushu show.
