Taichi is effective For Hypertension

Hypertension affects more than 1 billion people worldwide. Hypertension management guidelines recommend regular exercise to control blood pressure (BP). Taichi is a low-impact, low- to moderate-intensity exercise that has numerous health benefits.

Previous research found that Taichi had many benefits for patients with hypertension. In addition to improving blood pressure, the blood lipid profile, blood sugar, body measurements, and quality of life of patients improved significantly after practicing Taichi.

Latest clinical trial results from 2 tertiary public hospitals in China has found that tai chi provides greater improvements than other aerobic exercise including walking. Participants included 342 adults aged 18 to 65 years with prehypertension.

A 24-month Taichi intervention based on the Yang 24 movement routine proved more beneficial for reducing the blood pressure of patients with prehypertension than aerobic exercise after 12 months.
